Abstract
Objective : To evaluate evidence for the effectiveness of the Pilates method on health outcomes in older people.

Methods : Six electronic databases were searched, including CINAHL, MEDLINE, PubMed, Science Direct, PEDro, and Cochrane library. Databases were searched using the terms Pilates and Pilates Method. Published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were selected if they included older participants with a health condition, if a health outcome was measured, if Pilates was administered, and if the article was published in English in a peer-reviewed journal from 2000 to 2016. Following completion of the searches, two reviewers independently assessed the trials and extracted data using a data extraction form.

Results : Six randomized controlled trials were ultimately included in this review. Four of the RCTs reported statistically significant effects on older people as a result of Pilates.

Conclusion : This review of the literature presents evidence attesting to the benefits of participation in Pilates for older people.
